Play Testing + Iteration
We received positive feedback on our game mechanics and overall theme, but many users wanted a richer story, and some even suggested adding a tutorial. The purpose of the game also wasn’t entirely clear. As a team, we hadn’t planned on creating an elaborate backstory, but we knew we needed to start and end the game in a cohesive and satisfying way. We decided to start and end the game in darkness, and David Morales thought of using a camp fire and luminous fireflies as a gentle way to ease out the game and bring a play session to a close. This can be seen at the end of the demo, below. We also changed our game terrain to add some more visual complexity to the field of view, and make depth a bit more apparent, since our original game was completely flat.
